Ansul FORAY Fire Extinguishing Agents
Ansul FORAY for Hand Portable & Wheeled Fire Extinguishers
Application of Ansul FORAY
Ansul FORAY may be used to combat fires in ordinary combustible materials such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber and many plastics (Class A) as well as fires in flammable liquids, gases and greases (Class B) and fires involving energized electrical equipment (Class C). FORAY is of particular value on combination fires (Class A and B together) and on Class A fires at temperatures which would freeze water. A typical application is the heavy equipment used in the logging industry.
FORAY is available in hand portable and wheeled extinguishers, large stationary units, mobile units and various fixed nozzle piped systems.
Description
FORAY is the only one of Ansul’s dry chemicals that provides Class A fire extinguishment. It is a monoammonium phosphate based dry chemical containing chemical additives, and produced by an exclusive Ansul chemical process. The resultant agent is free-flowing, water repellant, non-abrasive, and when used as a fire extinguishing agent will produce no toxic effects.
FORAY is yellow in color to differentiate it from the other dry chemical agents. Moisture may combine with monoammonium phosphate based agents in post fire situations to produce mild corrosion. Because of this, prompt cleanup is recommended. If the agent cannot be readily swept up, warm water may be used as a solvent.
Performance
Monoammonium phosphate based extinguishants are unique among dry chemicals because of their "A" rating. Ansul FORAY is at least 4 to 5 times as effective as an equal weight of water on Class A fires. Various extinguishers will operate at temperatures as low as –65° F and as high as 120° F (–54° C and 49° C). Caution: Never mix FORAY with bicarbonate based dry chemicals. A chemical reaction that is harmful to the extinguisher will take place.
Ordering Information
Ansul FORAY is available in 45 pound pails (Part No. 53080). Refill services are available from your local Ansul distributor.
Approvals and Listings
Nationally recognized testing laboratories grant an approval or listing for the combination of an extinguisher and its agent. Numerous types and sizes of approved or listed FORAY extinguishers are available. Following discharge, these extinguishers are to be refilled only with the original agent, as specified on the nameplate. This agent meets specifications of agencies of the U.S. and Canadian governments.
Ansul PLUS-FIFTY C
Application
Ansul PLUS-FIFTY C may be used to combat fires in flammable liquids, gases and greases (Class B) including such fires when involved with energized electrical equipment (Class C). Specific applications include the protection of commercial food preparation equipment (fryers, griddles, range hoods, etc.) and textile machinery. PLUS-FIFTY C is available in hand portable and wheeled extinguishers, large stationary units, mobile units and various fixed nozzle piped systems.
Description
This is the first of Ansul’s dry chemicals, and the most widely used. PLUS-FIFTY C is a sodium bicarbonate based dry chemical containing chemical additives, and is produced by an exclusive Ansul chemical process. The resultant agent is free-flowing, water repellant, non-abrasive and, when used as a fire extinguishing agent, will produce no toxic effects. PLUS-FIFTY C is bluish-white in color to differentiate it from the other dry chemical agents.
Post fire cleanup of PLUS-FIFTY C can be readily accomplished using a vacuum cleaner or a broom and dust pan.
Performance
On a pound for pound basis, PLUS-FIFTY C
is twice as effective in extinguisher applications as carbon dioxide. Various extinguishers charged with PLUS-FIFTY C will function effectively at temperatures from –65° F to 150° F (–54° C to 66° C). Other agents are not listed for temperatures exceeding 120° F (49° C). Caution: Never mix PLUS-FIFTY C with phosphate based dry chemicals. A chemical reaction that is harmful to the extinguisher will take place.
Ordering Information
PLUS-FIFTY C is available in fifty pound (22.7 kg) cartons (Part No. 9338), and fifty pound (22.7 kg) pails (Part No. 9336). Refill services are available from your local Ansul distributor.
Approvals and Listings
Nationally recognized testing laboratories grant an approval or listing for the combination of an extinguisher and its agent. Numerous types and sizes of approved or listed PLUS-FIFTY C extinguishers are available. Following discharge, these extinguishers are to be refilled only with the original agent, as specified on the name-plate. This agent meets specifications of agencies of the U.S. and Canadian governments.
Ansul Purple-K’
Application
Ansul ‘Purple-K’ may be used to combat fires in flammable liquids, gases and greases (Class B) including such fires when involved with energized electrical equipment (Class C). Because of its excellent fire fighting effectiveness, ‘Purple-K’ is widely used in the petroleum industry and in other areas where the fire risk is high. ‘Purple-K’ is available in hand portable and wheeled extinguishers, large stationary units, mobile units and various fixed nozzle piped systems.
Description
‘Purple-K’ is one of the most effective of the Ansul dry chemicals against Class B fires. It is a potassium bicarbonate based dry chemical containing chemical additives, and is produced by an exclusive Ansul chemical process. The resultant agent is free-flowing, water repellant, non-abrasive and, when used as a fire extinguishing agent, will produce no toxic effects. ‘Purple-K’ is violet in color to differentiate it from the other dry chemical agents. Post fire cleanup of ‘Purple-K’ can be readily accomplished using a vacuum cleaner or a broom and dust pan.
Performance
‘Purple-K’ is extremely effective against Class B fires, and has been shown to be at least 4 to 5 times as effective in extinguisher applications as carbon dioxide, and more than twice as effective as sodium bicarbonate based extinguishants. Various extinguishers will operate at temperatures as low as -65° F and as high as 120° F (-54° C and 49° C). Caution: Never mix ‘Purple-K’ with phosphate based dry chemicals. A chemical reaction that is harmful to the extinguisher will take place.
Ordering Information
‘Purple-K’ is available in fifty pound pails (Part No. 9335). Refill services are available from your local Ansul distributor.
Approvals and Listings
Nationally recognized testing laboratories grant an approval or listing for the combination of an extinguisher and its agent. Numerous types and sizes of approved or listed ‘Purple-K’ extinguishers are available. Following discharge, these extinguishers are to be refilled only with the original agent, as specified on the nameplate. This agent meets specifications of agencies of the U.S. and Canadian governments.
