TraceTek -- The most reliable and accurate fluid leak detection system for Commercial, Industrial and Environmental applications.

The TraceTek liquid leak detection system was initially developed in the mid 1980s. The technology was developed in Raychem Corporation's central R&D facility as an outgrowth of work related to distributed anode systems for pipeline cathodic protection. Early TraceTek systems were sold primarily to detect water leaks in computer facilities.

TraceTek sensor cable was, and still is, used to monitor the concealed piping and valves beneath raised computer room floors. Other markets that quickly emerged included hazardous chemical supply and recovery in semiconductor production facilities, hazardous fluid monitoring in pharmaceutical manufacturing and the monitoring of the interstitial space between the inner and outer wall of double containment piping systems.

The main strength of the TraceTek sensor cable is its ability to locate a spill in addition to early detection. Today, TraceTek stands as one of Tyco Thermal Controls' most unique brands.

TraceTek Leak Detection Systems Complete Building Applications

Systems for Entire Buildings: The model 1100CB addresses the installation of fluid leak detection systems throughout the entire building. The system provides leak detection in raised floor areas, water service areas, "wet columns", food preparation areas, overhead piping systems, transformer vaults and switchgear rooms, as required by the building.

BMS Integration: The model 1200CB covers the installation of fluid leak detection systems which are integrated entirely into the BMS. The system allows any application of TraceTek sensors to be integrated into the BMS, including raised floors, mechanical rooms, building piping systems, drain pans, and fuel oil systems.

TraceTek Leak Detection Systems Mechanical Equipment Rooms

Small Mechanical Equipment Rooms: The model 1100MR should be used in small equipment rooms where the total square footage to be monitored is less than 800 sf. In this application, a small number of probes are distributed over the coverage area. To keep system costs to a minimum, individual alarms for each sensor are not provided.

Large Mechanical Equipment Rooms: The model 1200MR should be used in equipment rooms where the total square footage to be monitored is greater than 800 sf. The system provides up to 50 sensors distributed over the coverage area and displays the sensor that is in alarm on a alarm and locating panel.

Mechanical Equipment Rooms with Fuel Oil: The model 1300MR should be used in equipment rooms that must also include fuel oil detection. The system provides a small number of water sensing probes and fuel oil sensing cables distributed over the coverage area. The alarm panel provides audible/visual alarms locally as well as remote alarm contacts.

TraceTek Leak Detection Systems Raised Floor Applications

Small Raised Floor (less than 400 sf): The model 1100RF should be in raised floor applications where the total square footage to be monitored is less than 400 sf. The system detects the presence of water but does not report the actual location. This level of notification is acceptable in small areas where the problem should be evident when a floor tile is raised.

Large Raised Floor (greater than 400 sf): The model 1200RF should be in raised floor applications where the total square footage to be monitored is greater than 400ft². The system detects the presence of water and reports the location of the event to within +/- one foot. Individual circuits should be kept to about 600'. When longer runs of sensor are needed, the TT-SIM (sensor interface module) should be used to connect additional independent circuits. This level of notification is required in large raised floor areas where the problem will NOT be evident when a floor tile is raised.

Raised Floor with Hazard Isolation: The model 1300RF should be used in raised floor applications where the total square footage to be monitored is greater than 400 sf with sensor cables installed to isolate any potential water source. The system detects the presence of water and reports the location of the event to within +/- one foot. Individual circuits should be kept to about 600 sf. When longer runs of sensor are needed, the TT-SIM (sensor interface module) should be used to connect additional independent circuits. This level of notification is required in large raised floor areas where the problem will NOT be evident when a floor tile is raised.

Small Non-Raised Floor (less than 800 sf): The model 1100NR should be used in non-raised floor applications where the total square footage to be monitored is less than 800 sf. In this application, a small number of sensors are distributed over the coverage area. The alarm panel moniters the entire system and provides a common audible/visual alarm locally as well as remote alarm contacts.

Large Non-Raised Floor (greater than 800 sf): The model 1200NR should be used in non-raised floor applications where the total square footage to be monitored is greater than 800 ft² or multiple smaller rooms are connected to a central alarm panel. In this application, up to 50 sensors are distributed over the coverage area. The alarm panel moniters the entire system and displays the probe that has detected the leak.

TraceTek Leak Detection Systems Building Piping Applications

Piping without Drip-Pans: The model 1200BP addresses the installation of fluid leak detection systems for building piping systems located at ceiling level and in utility trenches and tunnels that do not have drip-pans. Applications include waste, sanitary, HVAC, potable water, sprinkler and fire protection piping systems.

Piping with Drip-Pans: The model 1100BP addresses the installation of fluid leak detection systems for building piping systems where drip pans are utilized to protect property and systems located below the piping. Applications include waste, sanitary, HVAC, potable water, sprinkler and fire protection piping systems.

It is never a good idea to allow corrosive chemicals or hydrocarbons to leak from their containment vessel. This is particularly true in a commercial building or institutional facility where customers, guests, patients, and other individuals not familiar with these materials have the potential to come into contact with them. This is a safety issue first and a liability issue second.

However, elevator pits represent an additional and different type of safety threat. Should hydraulic oil leak into an elevator pit from an elevator hydraulic system and then the building become involved in a fire, the hydraulic oil could have an impact on the speed with which the fire can be controlled.

If equipment located in an elevator pit develops a hydraulic oil leak, a layer of hydraulic oil will build on the pit floor. When firemen then put water on a fire, the water finds its way to the bottom of the pit and the oil floats on top. When the pit is full, additional water making its way into the pit pushes the oil out the top. When the oil leaves the confinement of the pit, it begins to spread. At this point, adding more water only spreads a high-grade fuel into the fire. Water is no longer a suitable tool for fighting the fire.

Single Elevator Pit: The Model 2000EWH should be selected when there is a single elevator pit to be monitored. The unit has a full-function, single channel, control module with audible and visual alarms and normally-open / normally-closed relay output. The unit detects the presence of both hydrocarbon and water separately on the same channel. The presence of either material causes a leak alarm, which alerts an operator.

Multiple Elevator Pits: The Model 2100EWH should be selected when multiple elevator pits need to be monitored. The unit has a full-function, multiple channel, alarm module with audible and visual alarms and normally-open / normally-closed relay output. The unit detects the presence of both hydrocarbon and water separately on the same or independent channels. The presence of either material causes a leak alarm, which alerts an operator.
